Psssst, Check Out These Secret Menu Items
The Tablehopper Shares Her Favorite Secret Menu Items at San Francisco Restaurants on Caviar
Sure, everyone knows about the secret menu items at In-N-Out Burger (animal-style fries!) and even Taco Bell is in on the act (hola, cheesarito). But here are some San Francisco restaurants that have their own secret menu items, and since they all deliver with Caviar, they made some special arrangements so you can have them delivered right to your door! Who’s special? You are.
The Brass Monkey by Little Star
Anyone who is a fan of the excellent deep dish pizzas at Little Star should have this secret menu add-on on their cheat sheet. The classic Little Star pizza comes with spinach, ricotta, mushrooms, onions, and garlic, but when you order the Brass Monkey, it comes with a sausage add-on. Yasssss. That funky monkey.
The Works by American Grilled Cheese Kitchen
You ready for the Works? Of course you are. AGCK’s popular Mousetrap sandwich — a cheesy extravaganza that comes with Tillamook cheddar, Monterey jack, and Havarti on sourdough — gets an add-on of bacon, roasted tomatoes, and bread ’n’ butter pickles. So seeeeeecret, and just in time for summer tomatoes!
Cherry Poppers by Merigan Sub Shop
As if Liza Shaw’s lovingly assembled subs weren’t enough to make you really, really happy (Terrina for the win!), there’s an off-menu special of pickled cherry peppers with salami and provolone inside that you can order. What?! If that isn’t the most perfect accompaniment to an Italian combo, I don’t know what is. Now imagine eating both on your couch. Yes, please.
Purgatorio Pizza by Pizzeria Delfina
There are already so many great thin-crust pizzas on the menu at Delfina Pizzeria, and the formerly off-menu Panna (a pizza with cream) made its way to the main menu. But one secret pizza that is totally going to rock you is the Purgatorio, based on the Italian tradition of cooking a couple eggs in leftover tomato sauce (“uova in purgatorio”). Here you get two eggs nestled in some spicy tomato sauce, with a flurry of pecorino cheese. It’s actually heaven instead of that halfway place.
Bacon Fries and “Like Eddy” by Bacon Bacon
These bacon-loving tricksters have a couple more bacony treats up their sleeves. First, did you know you can always order bacon fries? And nope, you won’t find those on the menu. You get French fries tossed in herbs, Parmesan, spicy olive oil, homemade bacon bits, and bacon jam (yes, bacon jam) served with a side of blue cheese vinaigrette. Ay yi yi! And speaking of fries, if someone orders any sandwich or burger “like Eddy,” they put fries on or in the sandwich! Thanks, Eddy!
